The Isle of Skye is a particular highlight on these tours – read on for five reasons to take an Isle of Skye vacation with GeoCultura!
1. Plenty of time to tour Skye
The Isle of Skye is a special place, and a one-day flying visit really isn’t long enough to get a full experience of its attractions.
With two nights staying in Portree on Skye you will get a chance to explore different parts of the island without feeling rushed.
We have different travel packages and dates for visiting Skye: you can enjoy: –
- two nights on Skye as part of our 7 Day / 6 Night ‘7-day luxury Scotland vacation‘
- two nights on Skye as part of 8 Day / 7 Night ‘8-day Scotland travel tour‘
- two nights on Skye as part of 6 Day / 5 Night ‘Scotland and Isle of Skye vacation package‘
On each of our Isle of Skye tours from Edinburgh you’ll also explore the Highlands of Scotland, including Loch Ness, Culloden, Glencoe or the Outer Hebrides, depending on which tour you choose.
2. Tour Skye and stay in style in Portree
For us, accommodation is a key part of any good tour; we find places you’ll look forward to returning to each day. Our choice of Skye accommodation definitely fits the bill, as we have selected the welcoming 4-star Cuillin Hills Hotel in Skye’s largest town, Portree.
Formerly a stately hunting lodge, the Cuillin Hills Hotel sits on a hill at the edge of town, with superb views of Portree Bay and, beyond that, the distant Cuillin Mountains.
The highly-recommended restaurant focuses on quality produce from Skye itself, with a menu offering traditional favourites alongside modern dishes.
3. See incredible landscapes on your Isle of Skye holiday
Skye is famous for its distinctive landscape, with jutting pinnacles, rugged coastlines and looming mountains that inspire a sense of awe. Our Isle of Skye tours will focus on aspects of this unique landscape:
- On each of our Isle of Skye vacation packages you’ll be discovering how Skye’s geology has led to the creation of its picturesque hills, mountains and lakes. You will take a boat trip from Elgol to the hidden Loch Coruisk. You will have the opportunity walk on the iconic Quiraing range, possibly one of the world’s most beautiful landslides.
- In our ‘Scotland and Isle of Skye vacation package’, professional photographer Alex Hare will show you the best spots for a great photo of Skye, including remote coves, craggy cliffs and the famous Old Man of Storr pinnacle.
4. Our tour leaders
Along with top-quality accommodation and an opportunity to discover Skye’s incredible landscapes on these Scotland vacations, we’re also including expert Tour Leaders, photographer Alex Hare and Ali Motion on the September tour and Ali and geologist Noelle Odling on the late April and May tour.
Our Tour Leader for Skye is Ali Motion, a highly-experienced and accredited Scottish Tourist Guide. Ali’s speciality is showing off the best of Scotland, including its culture, history and wildlife, and she’s used to getting off the beaten track to reveal key sites and tell stories from Skye’s recent and distant past.
All three leaders for this vacation will compliment your time on Skye and help you to access an extra layer of understanding, through facts, folklore and more!
5. Slow travel for maximum enjoyment
We choose to start all our tours in Scotland with a scenic first-class rail trip from Edinburgh, for maximum relaxation and great views of the Highlands. We pick up the small coach/minibus for the next leg from Inverness to Skye and beyond. The final day of the tour includes a return rail journey back to Edinburgh.
