June/July 2026 – Cool off on these five summertime tours in the UK and Ireland

After the recent heatwave, many of us have been rethinking what makes the perfect summer holiday. While sunshine will always have its place, there’s something rather appealing about a destination where you can spend all day exploring without searching for the nearest patch of shade.

With ancient stone circles, puffins and island stories galore on the itinerary, it’s a fresh way to explore this archipelago off Scotland’s northern edge.

If you’ve heard of Orkney, it’s probably because of its extraordinary prehistoric sites – and rightly so. But we think the real magic of these islands lies in the way those storied stones sit side by side with seabird cliffs, Viking traces and everyday island life.

Our brand-new tour is about getting to know Orkney beyond the usual checklist of UNESCO sites, though of course we visit those too – the islands are home to the greatest concentration of Neolithic sites in Europe, after all – and spending time soaking up the atmosphere of this remarkable place.

Meet Michael Roberts.
