Russell K. Davies’ tours are shaped by the days he spends every year exploring the high desert and deep canyons of southeast Utah. His time reading and searching rock art, ruins and lesser-known trails, deepens his own understanding of the incredible landscapes and will help deepen yours. 

As a professional geologist and GeoCultura tour leader, Russell has more than 30 years’ experience exploring the landscapes of southern Utah. Based between Grand Junction, Colorado, and Dallas, Texas, he has been guiding excursions around Moab and the wider area for decades. It’s no surprise that he has a gift for making complex ideas easy to grasp, helping you see how rocks, rivers and canyons connect to the human stories written across the landscape.  

When he’s not working with GeoCultura, he consults for a wide range of clients, teaches, and has published extensively on structural geology, including research into the deformation of rocks across the Colorado Plateau. 

Warm, approachable and endlessly curious, Russell leads with quiet authority and genuine enthusiasm. Travelling with him is a chance to be introduced to the Southwest by someone who knows it intimately – and can’t wait for you to fall in love with it too.
